In the summer of 1976, Mike Bloomfield began recording what he wanted to be a tribute record to the many great blues artists he'd been inspired by as a young guitarist. Done for Guitar Player Records, a company that existed briefly as an extension of Guitar Player magazine, it also served as an instructional LP for those who were interested in learning to play the blues. Michael prefaced each tune with a brief description of the equipment used and the key it was in. He then recreated the guitar sounds of Guitar Slim, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and many others. This advertisement for the album, "If You Love These Blues," appeared in the January 27, 1977 issue of Rolling Stone. The record was later nominated for a Grammy award. Courtesy of Mordy |

This handout announced a special tribute to Michael that occurred at the 2003 San Francisco Blues Festival. The line-up, as outlined in the text, was a stellar one and a perfect for recreating the music of one of America's premier guitarists. |
